President of the Dominican Republic Lays Flowers to Remember War Dead

  • President Medina will depart Kingston for Montego Bay, where he will participate in the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Global Conference, which is being held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre from November 27 to 29.

President of the Dominican Republic, His Excellency Danilo Medina Sánchez, visited National Heroes Park today (November 27), where he laid flowers at the Cenotaph in honour of soldiers who died in World Wars I and II.

The ceremony forms part of the agenda for the President’s one-day State Visit to Jamaica.

President Medina and members of his delegation were greeted by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith and other officials.

Following this event, President Medina called on the Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), where the leaders had discussions on a range of bilateral, regional and multilateral issues.

The visit was highlighted by the conferment of the Order of Excellence on the Dominican Republic President by Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, during a ceremony at King’s House. President Medina in turn conferred the State Honour of the Dominican Republic on Prime Minister Holness.

A State Luncheon hosted by the Governor-General was also held in the President’s honour.

He is also scheduled to receive a courtesy call from Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Peter Phillips.
