Project Director of ‘Fi Wi Jamaica’, Professor Rosalea Hamilton, says positive results are expected from the interventions the project will make during its week of activities currently on across the parish of St. James.
Fi Wi Jamaica is a three-year social and intervention project that seeks to build a sense of responsibility in Jamaicans with a view of coexisting in peace and harmony. Its subtitle is ‘Dreaming of a better Jamaica’.
Speaking at a JIS ‘Think Tank’ in Montego Bay on November 21, Professor Hamilton, who is also Vice President of the University of Technology (UTech), said the main event for the week will be a town hall meeting at the Montego Bay Convention Centre on November 23, under the theme ‘Our Dream for Jamaica’.
“The town hall meeting we see as very important because it culminates a series of civic responsibility workshops we had from April this year. The most important priorities citizens have identified are education, jobs and entrepreneurship, and good governance,” she said.
“The message on Wednesday is we have important dreams. The dreams will only come true when citizens play their part and act responsibly, and with the support of a good governance arrangement, with citizens truly partnering with Government, we can realise our dreams and we can transform Jamaica,” Professor Hamilton said.

Activities which took place under the Fi Wi Jamaica programme, which started in St. James on November 16, include a two-day workshop entitled ‘St. James Women in crisis’; visits to the Granville Place of Safety for Girls in Trelawny and the SOS Children’s Village in St. James; an International Men’s Day forum; a certification training programme for rural entrepreneurs; and a session entitled ‘Stand Up for a Cause’, at the Montego Bay Civic Centre.
