PM Golding for 30th Regular Meeting of CARICOM – Guyana

Prime Minister the Hon. Bruce Golding leaves the island tomorrow afternoon to attend the 30th regular meeting of the conference of Caricom Heads of Government from July 2-5 in Guyana.
He will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Hon. Dr. Kenneth Baugh and other representatives of that Ministry and the Office of the Prime Minister.
The agenda will include issues relating to the regional economy, human and social development, strengthening the Caricom Community, forging new relations, and the establishing of a diplomatic academy in Trinidad and Tobago.
Prime Minister Golding will be addressing the issue of impediments to regional trade as well as recommendations from the 20th meeting of the Prime Ministerial sub-committee on external trade negotiations. The Heads will be examining the region’s response to the impact of the global economic crisis; developments related to the tourism sector, agriculture and food security; and a regional strategy for information and communication technology for development.
Montserrat’s outstanding application for entrustment, the Turks and Caicos Island’s constitutional issue, Caricom-US relations, and support for OAS candidacies are also to be discussed.
During Mr. Golding’s absence, the Minister of Water and Housing, Hon. Dr. Horace Chang, will be in charge of the Government.
