Mrs. Rita Marley (L) greets Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Kenneth Baugh who officiated for Prime Minister Bruce Golding, at this morning’s (April 28) service for the life of Cedella Marley-Booker, mother of reggae legend Bob Marley. The service took place at the Ethiopian Orthodox Church on Maxfield Avenue, Kingston. Sharing the moment are Culture Minister, Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange and Island Records’ Chris Blackwell, friend of the Marley family. The Government announced that Mrs. Booker will be awarded a posthumous Order of Distinction for her service and dedication.

The competition which was just concluded at the National Arena saw some 500 competitors from 80 institutions vying for top awards in the areas of agriculture, apparel and sewing, beauty services and hospitality, among others

| Prime Minister Bruce Golding (L) gets a taste of what these competitors had to offer at the National arena recently. The occasion was the National Skills Competition, staged by Worldskills Jamaica, a division of the HEART Trust/NTA, which saw competitors from 80 institutions competing for top awards. The competition was held from April 23-25 and showcased skills in industrial maintenance, information technology/commercial skills, early childhood care and development and health related services.

Water and Housing Minister, Dr. Horace Chang (right), scans his appointment diary during a brief meeting with World Bank representative, Badrul Haque, at the Minister's New Kingston office on April 16. Dr. Chang and Mr. Haque discussed several areas in which the World Bank could assist Jamaica, including water projects, as well as studies aimed at exploring renewable energy sources, including hydro-electric power.
