PCCI Launched and Directors Appointed

Directors of the newly formed Portmore Chamber of Commerce and Industries (PCCI) were appointed recently (April 24) at an official launch and dinner held at shop 34 in the Portmore Pines Plaza.
President of the PCCI is Executive Marketing Manager of Caymanas Track Limited, Millicent Lynch while the First Vice President is the General Manager of Mount Royal Homes, Ransford White. They were elected at a recent general meeting of the Chamber held to elect its officers and directors.
Other executives are Norman Walker, Nicholas Azan, Noel Brown, Archibald McCalla, Rev. Garnett Roper and Patricia Campbell. To date there are more than 40 registered members of the organisation.
Minister of Local Government, Community Development and Sports, Portia Simpson-Miller, who was guest speaker, said that Portmore was now geared to achieve its full potential for the benefit of citizens and the rest of Jamaica.
“Your decision to launch the Portmore Chamber of Commerce and Industries tells me that you are ready to play your part in this great enterprise of making Portmore the model Municipality for all Jamaica to follow in achieving local level sustainable development,” she said.
She told the gathering, including business leaders and representatives from the church, education sector and the community that their input was crucial at the various levels of community and parish dialogues.”I am therefore expecting you to take your rightful place in the parish and community consultative process,” she added.
Minister Simpson-Miller said that she was happy with the signs of progress taking place in the Municipality. Among these, she said, were the construction of three buildings to set up branches of the Bank of Nova Scotia, the National Commercial Bank and the Royal Bank of Trinidad and Tobago.
She also mentioned the construction of an Information Technology factory in Naggo Head, which would employ over 500 workers and the completion of a modern office and community complex by the Power of Faith church.
Additionally, she said the completion of Highway 2000 “will open vast new opportunities for the development of the Municipality,” and urged the business community to contribute to the development process of Portmore.
“You have a wonderful opportunity to be the founding fathers and mothers of this great Municipality. You have the opportunity to lay the foundation for development of an extraordinary community, demonstrating the true Jamaican spirit of harmony graciousness, kindness, humour, productivity and enterprise,” she said.
Minister Simpson-Miller challenged citizens and business leaders to express their “community consciousness” by keeping their surroundings attractive and ensuring the proper disposal of waste.
“Let your commitment reveal itself in the quality of your products and services,” she added.
Other speakers at the event were Minister of Development, Dr. Paul Robertson; State Minister in the Ministry of Finance and Planning, Fitz Jackson and Mayor of Portmore, George Lee.
