Congratulating the winners for their hard work and commitment, guest speaker, Aloun Ndombet-Assamba, Minister of Industry and Tourism, observed that with the several awards, winning was not just a measure of excellence, but also achievement of greatness.

Noting that the contribution of the awardees to the company had extended to the tourism industry, Minister Assamba, said “your success which was also the clients’ success, is the success of tourism, the lifeblood of St. Ann,” adding that when the country boasted a tourism premium, it was positively affecting all the players including the taxi-men, the vendors and the porters.

“In this age of globalisation, the only way to win is by competitive advantages, but we need to add new and quality products for the world market,” Minister Assamba reiterated, encouraging Jamaicans to be proactive as they participated in the globalised climate.

She said it was also important that persons get rid of the dependency and mendicancy syndrome, and began to respond to the needs of their customers and support their own economy.

To that end, the Minister urged Jamaicans to be a part of the “Buy Jamaican, Build Jamaican Campaign”, pointing out that they could not stop the foreign produce from entering the country, but they could buy the Jamaican goods and keep Jamaicans employed.

Others participating in the awards function, chaired by Tommy James, Assistant Vice President for Corporate Communications, were Maxine McLure, former LOJ Chief Executive Officer; R. O. Walters, Custos of the parish; and Mavis Ferguson, Branch Manager.
