Organisers of Mobay City Run Hailed

The St. James Parish Council and other entities throughout Montego Bay have hailed organisers of the fourth annual MoBay City Run, which was staged on May 7.

According to Mayor, His Worship, Homer Davis, the charitable event, which was divided into 3k, 5k and 10k sections, was one of the best things to have happened in Montego Bay since the start of the year and brought out a wide cross section of persons “in a spirit of fun and goodwill”.

“I cannot begin to thank the organisers for putting on such an event, and all in the name of education and good health. Believe me when I say it was the best of western Jamaica on display,” the Mayor told JIS News.

Mr. Davis, who was also a participant, said he is urging more corporate entities in and around Montego Bay to get on board as sponsors of the event next year, noting that the MoBay City Run could emerge as the biggest of its kind in the region as time goes by.

The run started in front of the Old Hospital Park on Gloucester Avenue, with some 3,600 registered participants.

Kirk Brown, representing Wards Power Tools, was the male 10k winner, while Dwayne Graham, also from the same camp, took home the 5k title.

Rainforest Seafood’s Chris-Ann Lewis repeated last year’s feat by comfortably winning the 10k section for women. Conrad Daley Jr. and Samantha Collie warmed the hearts of the large crowd by winning the 3k boy and girl sections, respectively.

Defending champion, Juliet Dinnall, was again the winner of the 5k event in the female category.

“I am very happy to have been able to win my section again this year,” Ms. Dinnal told the reporters on hand.

For her part, Annie Cicvaric, representing Travelweek Tour Company out of Canada, noted that this was her organisation’s third year of participating in the MoBay City Run.

“This is by far the best. We certainly will be back next year, as this event just gets bigger and bigger,” she said.

The winners took home several prizes, including JetBlue Airways travel certificates to any destination that they fly to from Jamaica.

RIU Resorts with more than 559 participants from their six resorts, walked away with the top Corporate Challenge prize, with Scotiabank and Itel BPO, placing second and third, respectively.

Platinum sponsors, Unicomer Jamaica (trading as Courts), said the organisers must be “warmly congratulated” for orchestrating yet another successful staging.

According to brand manager, Jacqueline Edwards-Locke, “Unicomer Jamaica prides itself on supporting education, which is evidenced by the 30-year commitment that Courts has made by awarding a total of 1,510 scholarships of excellence to date.”
