The Full Story

The Office of National Reconstruction (ONR) was presented with a cheque for $40 million on September 24, that will go toward the reconstruction effort, following the devastation by Hurricane Ivan just over two weeks ago.
This money represents the combined donations of the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), National Commercial Bank (NCB), Dehring Bunting & Golding (DB&G), and Victoria Mutual Building Society (VMBS).
Communications Liaison Officer at the ONR, Tracey Hamilton told JIS News that the Office had also received $15 million from Pan-Caribbean Merchant Bank, Life of Jamaica, and Pan-Jam Investment Trust Ltd. combined.
Of the $40 million, DB&G has given $5 million; VMBS, $5 million, and JNBS, $10 million. The NCB has matched these donations with a contribution of $20 million.
The bank has pledged to match donations up to an amount of $100 million. On September 23, Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB) also donated $7.5 million to the reconstruction effort.
