September 26, 2004

The Full Story

A meeting was held on September 24 between Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Office of National Reconstruction (ONR), Danville Walker and top officials of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS), at the ONR’s offices on Oxford Road.
Coming out of that meeting was a decision to use members of the Jamaica 4-H Clubs to help assess the damage throughout the agricultural sector, caused by Hurricane Ivan about two weeks ago.
Communications Liaison Officer at the ONR, Tracey Hamilton told JIS News that several farming groups have also come together on their own, to conduct assessments and to present a collective plan. “The industries have all come together. coffee, citrus, banana. They are assessing the damage and are working on the way forward. Collectively, they will submit a plan, as it relates to putting them back on track,” she noted. This plan, Miss Hamilton pointed out, would be ready in approximately two weeks.
