Teams from the National Water Commission (NWC) and the National Works Agency (NWA) are undertaking work to repair a damaged section of roadway along Constant Spring Road in St. Andrew.

A collapsed sewer line caused the road near Market Place to cave in, resulting in the closure of three of five lanes.

Corporate Public Relations Manager at the NWC, Charles Buchanan, told JIS News that the teams will be working overtime to complete the repairs.  He said all the areas that have been identified as having suffered damage will be fixed.

“We hope to be able to complete all of this work to reinstate the area and enable traffic to flow on this critical area by Monday morning,” he said.

He noted that scores of cables belonging to other companies has made the task arduous, but assured that “everything is being done to ensure a quick completion”.

The police is managing the flow of traffic in the area.

Mr. Buchanan is urging motorists to be responsible while using the roadway and cooperate with the work crew. “A number of persons have made a bad situation worse in the way they have chosen to drive recklessly. We ask persons to desist from this temptation,” he said.

“We regret the negative impact that this work has had on the flow of traffic throughout the Corporate Area, but it is an emergency and is unavoidable. We ask persons to be understanding and cooperate,” he added.
