No Public Gathering near Parliament for the Opening

March 24, 2010

The Full Story

After consulting with the schools that may be affected by the opening ceremony of Parliament during the staging of GSAT, and with notice to the Parliamentary Opposition, the police have been advised that there should be no assembly in the immediate environs of the Parliament on Thursday, March 25, 2010.
This is being done as the Ministry of Education has concerns about possible disruption of the GSAT examination and/or distraction of students occasioned by the coincidence of the opening ceremony of Parliament and the sitting of the examination in two schools near Gordon House. The precincts and the immediate areas surrounding the schools will be treated as sterile/secure areas.
Tomorrow – Thursday, March 25 – is the official opening of the New Parliamentary Year and traditionally supporters of the two major political parties gather outside Gordon House.
