The Full Story

Newly elected Member of Parliament for Central Westmoreland, Dwayne Vaz, has welcomed the commissioning into service of electricity in Llandilo Phases 5 and 6 in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland.

The project, which was completed recently, was undertaken by the Rural Electrification Programme (REP).

Mr. Vaz said the provision of electricity forms part of his development plans for the area, which is one of Westmoreland’s fastest growing residential communities.

“We made a pledge to the residents to make the service available to them in time for Christmas, and we kept our promise,” he noted.

The Member of Parliament said the installation of electricity in Llandillo follows a similar project which was completed in Bamboo Walk, George’s Plain, under the REP.

Mr. Vaz said he will be working to ensure that the percentage of persons without electricity in the parish is reduced from 5 per cent, in keeping with the national average of 2.5 per cent.

“Development is not an overnight thing and we understand the issues of Central Westmoreland. There is a lot of work to be done. The Government is on board and fully committed to ensuring that development continues,” he noted.

The commissioning into service of electricity for Llandillo Phases 5 and 6 resulted in the utility being made available to over 60 houses in the community.
