NCU Hosts Career Expo

April 3, 2012

The Full Story

The Northern Caribbean University's (NCU) gymnatorium at its main campus in Mandeville was abuzz with activity during its Career Exposition on Thursday, March 29.

Held under the theme: “Empowering Minds…Preparing for the Future” with a focus on entrepreneurship, the exposition was organised by the Career and Employment Services Department of the university.

Director of the Department, Carolyn Marie Smith said “normally we want our career expo to expose students to career opportunities in a wide range of disciplines. This year we chose as our theme Entrepreneurship, and we wanted to find a way to push that, so we came up with the idea of a competition."

She told JIS News how proud they are of the students, and the level of professionalism and creativity they possess as they were given the opportunity to display their goods and services in booths, along with well established corporate organisations.

“This is the first year we are doing such a competition and we are really excited about it. We worked hard to motivate (the students) and we’re really pleased with the calibre of displays that (were seen) here today,” she said.

Institutions present to display their goods and services, as well as to recruit students included: the Office of the Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), Rural Agricultural and Development Agency (RADA), Solar Buzz Jamaica, Bank of Jamaica (BOJ), Institute of Chartered Accountant, Correctional Services, Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), HEART Trust/NTA, Jamaica Information Service (JIS), Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Office of the Children’s Advocate (OCA), Social Development Commission (SDC), Child Development Agency (CDA), Fiscal Services, Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN), Access to Information (ATI), KTL Group represented by Mrs. Kenea Linton George, as well as the 14 groups of finalists in the competition.
