More Parochial Roads to be Repaired

Cabinet has awarded three contracts valued at $47.9 million for the rehabilitation of eight parochial roads in the parishes of Hanover and Westmoreland through the Parish Infrastructure Development Programme (PIDP).
Minister of Information, Burchell Whiteman, made the announcement at Monday’s (Nov. 3) post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House.
The eight roads to be rehabilitated are Pell River Road and Wharf Road in Hanover; Carawina Road, Strathbogie Road, Truro Road, Chateau Road, Mint Road and Old Hope Road in Westmoreland.
The scope of work to be done on the roads are the realignment and reshaping of the carriageway, including initial clean up and desilting of the road reservation, provision of base course and double surface dressing as well as asphalted concrete paving in selected locations, contraction of new side drains, culverts, catch basins and retaining walls and the provision of streetlights.
Meanwhile, contracts were also awarded for the rehabilitation of 17 parochial roads and the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) roads in the parish of Clarendon.
The roads to be rehabilitated include, Palmyra to Mears, Windsor Road, Santa Hill to Bullock, Piece River, Collington Road, Chocolate Road, Orange Road, Wiltshire Park Road, Pennant Wood, Coxwan Road, Dank Land Settlement, Scotts Pass Road, Breeze Hill to Kraal Pass, Rhymesbury Settlement, Longwood, Rymesbury to Ebony Park and Rose Hall to Sandy Bay. The contracts are being awarded under the European Union/Stabex Programme (EUS) at a cost of over $88 million.
