Minister Shaw Makes Statement to Parliament on IMF Talks Today

Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Hon. Audley Shaw, will be making a statement in Parliament today (July 21), regarding the recent discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington.
The results of those talks were reported to the Cabinet at its weekly meeting on Monday.
During his budget presentation, Prime Minister the Hon. Bruce Golding stated that Jamaica was looking at possible assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in light of the global financial crisis and continued concerns about the country’s balance of payments, as well as pressure on the Net International Reserves (NIR).
However, Mr. Golding says his administration will only enter into an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) if the terms are beneficial to Jamaica.
