“I am so pleased that the West Indies team once again has the Wisden Trophy in its hands. England has kept it for nine long years but thanks to Chris and this team, the Wisden Trophy is back in the West Indies,” Miss Grange rejoiced.
The Sports Minister also had special congratulations for individual team members who had done extremely well in the Series. “Sarwan for his tons of runs which earned him the “Man of the Series” cheque; wicketkeeper Ramdin and batsman Nash, who scored their maiden test centuries.”
The Minister said that after the fabulous win at Sabina Park in the first Test match, the West Indies had showed it was equal to anything that England could come up with and maintained the lead to the end, winning the series by one match to none.
Miss Grange said that, “no matter their disappointments of the past, today is a day for cricket fans to celebrate well into the night this sterling performance of the West Indies. I hope Chris Gayle and his men will just move from strength to strength.”
“I plan to call Chris shortly”, the Sports Minister concluded.
