The Full Story

The Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Honourable Olivia Grange, MP has announced that there is to be major upgrading and expansion at the GC Foster College of Physical Education and Sport.
“What is coming will include the establishment of a Centre of Excellence at the College and I will be announcing more soon,” said Minister Grange at the opening ceremony for the 100th Boys’ and Girls’ Champs at the National Stadium yesterday (Tuesday) evening.
The Minister also announced the Ministry’s contribution to the Champs centenary celebrations.
“The Ministry could not let this historic occasion of the 100th anniversary of Boys’ and Girls’ Champs go without extending our own hand and hence I announce today that the Government will be awarding full scholarships to 100 student athletes over a four-year period to attend GC Foster.
“The award of these 100 scholarships celebrates Champs 100 and the launch of the Herb McKenley Scholarship Endowment Fund. The Sports Development Foundation is funding these scholarships with nine million dollars this year for 50 students in degree and certificate courses.”
Miss Grange said, “Champs is considered by many to be outranked only by the Olympics and the World Championships. The talent on display, the exciting competition, the colourful and outstanding performances make this the biggest, and the best boys and girls athletics championships in the world, and after 100 years what an awesome feeling.”
