Met Service Warns of More Rains Thursday and Friday

The Meteorological Service Jamaica has warned that the formation of Subtropical Storm Otto, northeast of the Turks and Cacois Islands, could produce widespread rains in Jamaica on Thursday and Friday (October 7 and 8).

In a release issued Wednesday (October 6), the Met Service said:
“In keeping with previous projections, Subtropical Storm Otto has formed northeast of Grand Turk Island and is producing widespread showers and thunderstorms across Puerto Rico and the Leeward Islands.
“Otto has induced a Trough across Jamaica, which is expected to linger across the island for the remainder of the week. Additionally, an Area of Low Pressure is still forecast to form across the southwestern Caribbean on Thursday, and this is likely to support an increase in rainfall on Thursday and Friday. Otherwise, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to occur mainly during the afternoons though the weekend.” The Meteorological Service says it will continue to monitor the progress of this system.
