Meetings Next Week on Nurses Reclassification

October 8, 2009

The Full Story

Government’s health sector groups have been invited to a special meeting at ten O’ Clock Thursday morning (October 15), at the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, to be updated on the reclassification exercises within the sector.
This will be followed by a meeting at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security on Friday (October 16) at 2 o’clock, involving the Nurses’ Association of Jamaica (NAJ).
JIS News understands that Thursday’s meeting has been arranged to allay any fears within the sector of impartiality in the handling of the reclassifications. The Cabinet has signed off on the reclassification of registered nurses, and the decision will be relayed to them at next Friday’s meeting.
These announcements were made Wednesday at a meeting at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, attended by Minister of State with responsibility for the Public Service in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service Senator the Hon. Arthur Williams, Minister of Health, Hon Rudyard Spencer, and other officials from the respective Ministries.
Labour and Social Security Minister, Hon. Pearnel Charles, has asked the health personnel to exercise patience while the matter is being deliberated.
