Knight Heads Delegation to Meeting of COFCOR

Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister, K.D. Knight, will head a delegation to Barbados for the Seventh Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), to be held from April 22 to 23.
Information Minister, Senator Burchell Whiteman made the announcement at yesterday’s (April 19) post Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House.He informed that the two-day meeting would consider a number of issues of importance to the region, including developments in Haiti; United States/Caribbean relations; implementation of the Revised CARICOM Foreign Policy Strategy; preparations for upcoming Summits and Ministerial meetings; relations with third states and international organizations; candidatures, rights, entitlements and obligations of associate members, as well as broader issues within the Community.
The COFCOR conference is being preceded by a two-day preparatory meeting to end today, to be followed by a presentation on April 21 by Professor Hillary Beckles, Principal of the Cave Hill campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) on ‘Ways to strengthen the roles of the UWI as a think tank in the integration process and its relevance to the substantive policy making on regional and global issues that will impact on the development of CARICOM’.
