JUTC Makes Major Adjustments in Service to Facilitate Visit of US President

  • All Premium services will depart New Kingston at 4:45 p.m. today and will not operate in New Kingston all of tomorrow, Thursday.

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has announced  major adjustments in its service for Wednesday, April 8 and Thursday, April 9 owing to the road closures in the Corporate area as result of the visit of United States President, Barack Obama.

All JUTC routes into New Kingston will be suspended from 4:00 p.m. today until 6:00 p.m. tomorrow. The last service out of New Kingston today will be at 5: 00 p.m.

All Premium services will depart New Kingston at 4:45 p.m. today and will not operate in New Kingston all of tomorrow, Thursday. Premium, services into New Kingston will resume on Friday morning, April 10.

The affected Premium services are: routes 3AX, Christian Gardens to New Kingston via Passage Fort Drive, Portmore Toll Road and Half Way Tree; 8AX, Naggo Head to New Kingston via Garveymeade, Westchester, Portmore Toll Road and Half Way Tree; 12AX, Naggo Head to New Kingston via Cumberland, Portmore Toll Road, Hagley Park Road and Half Way Tree; 17AX, Greater Portmore via Hellshire Main Road, Portmore Toll Road and Half Way Tree; 20AX, Greater Portmore via Braeton Parkway, Portmore Toll Road and Hagley Park Road.

Services being re-routed are routes 83, which runs from Half Way Tree to the City via Mountain View Avenue and Windward Road; 78, which runs from August Town to the City via Papine, Old Hope Road and Cross Roads; 72, which runs August Town to Half Way Tree via Mona Road and Hope Road; 900,which runs from Papine to Half Way Tree via Hope Road; 75, which runs from Six Miles to Papine via Molynes Road, Half Way Tree and Hope Road; 19AX,  which runs from Greater Portmore to Papine via Hellshire Main Road, the Portmore Toll Road, Hagley Park Road and Hope Road; 50X, which runs from Seaview Gardens to Papine via Hagley Park Road and Hope Road; 51X, Three Miles to Papine via Hope Road and 24X, which runs from Spanish Town to the Irvine Hall back gate at the University of the West Indies via Washington Gardens, Liguanea and Papine.

Route 77, which runs from August Town to the City via Mountain View Avenue and Windward Road, will not operate and passengers who would normally take buses on that route are being advised use routes 83 and 78.

All routes being re-routed except for number 83  will go from the City to Cross Roads to Half Way Tree Road and then along Eastwood Park Road; Constant Spring Road; Shortwood Road; Grants Pen Road; Barbican Road; Charlemont Avenue; Hope Boulevard; Old Hope Road on to Papine.

Route 83 will be re-routed from the City to Mountain View Avenue to Old Hope Road then to Stanton Terrace and back to Mountain View Avenue.

Routes not affected all by the road closures are Portmore to Down Kingston; Portmore to Half way Tree, Spanish Town to Downtown Kingston; Spanish Town to Half Way Tree and the routes in the eastern section of the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region (KMTR).

The JUTC says that all of its services will be back to normal on Friday, April 10.

Please note also that the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) routes coming down from Red Hills will also not be adjusted in any way consequent on the traffic changes occasioned by the visit of President Obama.
