JEEP gets Underway

March 20, 2012

The Full Story

Patching, drain cleaning, bushing and river training work under the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme (JEEP) have commenced in the communities of Cow Pen, Windsor Road, Thompson Town Road, Alston to Balliston, Bog Walk, retaining wall work at Limit to Spaulding and curb repair at Spaulding, as the roll out of the Programme gets underway in earnest.

There was also a walk-through of some of the other projects, work on which will commence today.

All 63 Members of Parliament have been invited to submit proposed projects to the tune of no more than Ten Million Dollars ($10M) each to the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing, and a number of MPs have already submitted their proposals for review.

Cabinet noted the JEEP roll out, and agreed that each Ministry will also identify a specific Officer who will interface with the JEEP Secretariat to aid in the smooth implementation of the Programme and ensure the agreed standards for work are adhered to.

The management of JEEP has already been brought under the supervision of Quantity Surveyor, Lucille Brodber, who will implement appropriate systems of accountability for the programme that are in line with government policies and procedures.

A formal launch ceremony of JEEP will take place in Kingston on Thursday.
