The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) will begin accepting entries for its annual competitions for 2017, on September 1.

These engagements include: the Jamaica Gospel Song, Children’s Gospel Song, Festival Song, Festival Queen, Visual Arts, Culinary Arts, Literary Arts Competitions and Creative Writing Competition and Exhibition, as well as the World Reggae Dance Championship.

Entries will also be accepted for the performing arts festival in the areas of speech, drama, music, traditional folk forms, dance and deaf dance.

Director of Cultural Community Development Services at the JCDC, Marjorie Leyden Vernon, told JIS News that the deadline dates for submissions will vary.

Entries for the Jamaica Gospel Song, Children’s Gospel Song, Festival Song and National Festival of the Performing Arts Competitions will close on November 25, 2016.

The deadline date for the Jamaica Visual Arts Competition and Exhibition is January 27, 2017, while entries for the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition should be submitted by February 28, 2017.

Entries for the Jamaica Culinary Arts Competition, Jamaica Creative Writing Competition and Exhibition and World Reggae Dance Championship should be handed in by March 16, April 28 and June 30, 2017, respectively.

Meanwhile the closing date for entries in the Big Stage Competition is July 21, 2017.

Entry forms, rules and other competition details are available on the JCDC’s website at www.jcdc.gov.jm; at the JCDC’s head office, 3-5 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10; and all JCDC parish offices islandwide.

Mrs. Vernon encourages persons to familiarize themselves with the competition guidelines and rules before submitting entries.
