JAMALCo Recognised for Outstanding Performance

A monument erected in honour of the JAMALCo workforce and alliance contractors was unveiled by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Alcoa, Alain Belda and Dr. Carlton Davis, Cabinet Secretary, at a ceremony held at the Halse Hall Refinery in Clarendon on Monday (May 3).
The ceremony was held in recognition of the company’s successful completion of the 1.25 million tonne per year expansion project, as well as the achievement of 7.5 million man-hours without a lost workday.
In his remarks, Mr. Belda commended the JAMALCo employees for being an example of good workers around the world, adding that the company was able to reduce costs by 30 per cent which had placed the organization in a competitive position on the world’s cost curve, while achieving an outstanding reputation for safety.
“You are making the best alumina in the world,” he said, as he challenged them to work towards greater accomplishments for the future.
Managing Director of JAMALCo, Jerome Maxwell, thanked Alcoa for placing confidence in the company and its partners to deliver and to work safely for the past and new expansion.
Mr. Maxwell noted that based on improvement in performance, within the last six months, JAMALCo had been placed in the top five alumina producers worldwide.
Some 17 departments received plaques of recognition for their contribution to JAMALCo’s safety achievement of the 7.5 million man-hours without a lost workday.
