All Jamaicans Must Contribute to Building a Strong Nation – Attorney General

Attorney General, Hon. Marlene Malahoo Forte, says the time has come for all Jamaicans to become active participants in the building of a strong country.

Addressing a ceremony to officially launch the Albion Development Committee at the Albion Community Centre in St. James recently, Mrs. Malahoo Forte said now is not the time for people to be self-centred, and Jamaicans must start seeing the value of the positive role they can play in the process of nation building, working alongside the Government.

“The work that I have committed to do will be made less difficult by the work you are committing to do. We all want a stronger nation, a job, better pay, better roads and we all want to turn on our pipes and see clean running water. I want to say that it is the time for us to stop and think not only about what we want, but what we do not want in our lives,” she said.

The Attorney General argued that community development must now take a structured approach that will enable Jamaicans to live in decent houses and also to be proud of the place they call home, and that the work to begin that process in the Albion community will make a difference among the citizens.

“As you commit to develop Albion through this formal vehicle of the Albion Community Development Committee, I want to encourage you to take the time to do the things that will lead to the results that you want,” she urged.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Malahoo Forte is encouraging everyone to ensure that in the building of structured communities, they pay close attention to the building of strong families.

“We will never build a strong Jamaica without strong families. Anybody who thinks that a nation can be built without strong families, they need to think again. The good news is that each of us has the power to make the kind of changes that we would like to see. You will not get improved results if you are not prepared to change the way you do things,” the Attorney General said.

There are approximately 3,599 residents living in the community of Albion, which is situated in North West St. James.
