Speaking at a post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House on August 2, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Hon. Olivia Grange, said several meetings are scheduled for bilateral discussions with various countries.

She pointed out that some of those discussions are a continuation of meetings held previously.

“For example, we are in discussion with China about assisting us with gymnastics, badminton and swimming and there are major discussions which we will finalise during that period in the UK at the World Championships,” she said.

She added that destination Jamaica will also be a focus, adding that there are special arrangements to meet people in the travel trade regarding discussions about airlift and marketing.

“Because track and field will be a focus and Jamaica as the sprint capital will be the focus at the World Championships, we know that there are opportunities that we cannot miss,” she said.

Jamaica House was launched in 2012 around the London Olympic Games to take advantage of the global focus on the nation’s athletes and Brand Jamaica.

Since then, the concept was featured at the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow; the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland; the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, and the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing.

The event is a collaboration among the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Ministry of Tourism and the Jamaica Tourist Board.
