Jamaica Hosts Launch of Caribbean-European Community Negotiations

Jamaica will be hosting on Friday (April 16), at the Jamaica Conference Centre, the launch of negotiations between the Caribbean and the European Community (EC) for an Economic Partnership Agreement.
Prime Minister P.J. Patterson and other leading personalities from the Caribbean and Europe, will address the launch. Others scheduled to speak are: Mr. Jean-Robert Goulongana, Secretary-General of the African Caribbean Pacific (ACP) Group; Dame Antoinette Miller, Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados, who is CARICOM’s lead Minister for ACP-EC negotiations; Mr. Pascal Lamy, European Commissioner for Trade; and Mr. Poul Nielson, European Commissioner for Development.
Prior to the launch, there will be a special meeting of Caribbean Trade Ministers and one of Caribbean officials to deliberate on issues pertaining to the structure and scopeof the negotiations.
