Jamaica Day in New York

Horseracing enthusiasts at Aqueduct Racetrack in New York will get a memorable taste of Jamaica’s invigorating rhythms and delectable cuisine during ‘Jamaica Day’ this Saturday (April 10).
The event is being hosted by the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) and the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA).
Jamaica Day, beginning at noon and continuing throughout Aqueduct’s 10-race card, will feature the laid-back rhythms of live reggae music from JAM-X Reggae/Steel Drum Band; a Jamaican-themed buffet from Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery and Grill; and a Visit Jamaica race, where New Yorkers will have an opportunity to win a five-day/four-night dream getaway for two to Kingston, the entertainment and cultural capital.
Roundtrip flight from New York’s JFK Airport will be provided by JetBlue Airways, while hotel accommodations in Kingston are courtesy of The Courtleigh Hotel and Suites.
“Jamaica is excited to work with the New York Racing Association to give New York consumers a chance to experience Jamaica’s unique music and cuisine at Aqueduct,” said Director of Tourism, Mr. John Lynch.
“Horseracing is a popular sport in Jamaica so this is a great opportunity to showcase the island’s varied offerings and exciting attractions that cater to the needs of every traveller,” he added.
Jamaica Tourist Board representatives will be present to help patrons plan their Jamaican vacation.
Founded in 1955, the NYRA contributes more than $2 billion annually to New York State’s urban, suburban and rural economy. In 2009, more than 1.6 million people attended live races at NYRA tracks.
Factoring nationwide off-track wagering, the average daily betting handle on NYRA races alone, totals more than $9.3 million.
