The Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) is to launch a Trade Single Electronic Window, which will allow customers to apply and pay for permits and licences electronically.
Commissioner of Customs, Major (Ret’d) Richard Reese, said the system will facilitate the processing and electronic transfer of applications to the agency.
Major Reese, who was addressing a meeting of the Kiwanis Club of downtown Kingston at the Hotel Four Seasons on July 25, said the system will serve to fully automate a process, which already allows for some electronic transfer of documents.
He said it will also enable importers or traders to use a single portal to inform themselves about various commodities that require permits.
“Therefore, there should be no reason for one to have a permit breach because you have (the) information before you import,” Major Reese said.
