Jamaica Cricket 2007 to Manage Trelawny Stadium Until September

Cabinet has given approval for an extension to Jamaica Cricket 2007 for tenure as the management authority for the Trelawny Multipurpose Stadium, for a period of three months or to the end of September.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Information and Development, Donald Buchanan, at the post Cabinet press briefing, held at Jamaica House yesterday (June 25).
“The National Housing Trust, which owns the land on which the facility is situated, will be providing the funding for the maintenance and security of the property during this period and the consideration of the exact arrangements for this property going forward will be discussed and decided on during this period,” Mr. Buchanan said.
“We intend, however, to ensure that the development of this property is in the interest of Jamaica’s sport tourism, in the interest of Jamaica’s creative industries and in the interest of the development of sports in Jamaica,” the Minister said.
He also informed that it would cost $4 million per month to maintain the facility over the next three months.
The complex was used for the opening ceremony of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 in early March. The Caribbean region also hosted the Cricket World Cup 2007 games from March 11 to April 28.
