September 7, 2007

The Full Story

Persons interested in doing business in Jamaica will have an opportunity to explore that possibility at the first staging of the Jamaica Diaspora Investment Conference & Trade Expo, at the Hilton Hasbrouck Heights & Executive Meeting Centre in New Jersey, on October 19.
The one-day conference and trade expo entitled, ‘Beautiful Beaches, Bountiful Business’, will bring together Jamaican and US business persons, policy-makers, investment bankers, large and small investors to focus on key sectors in Jamaica, including renewable energy, agriculture and agro-allied industries, information and communication technology, and health and wellness tourism.
Dr. Harold Mignott, Chairman of the Northeast Region of the Jamaica Diaspora Foundation based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, said Jamaica was open for business, after the recent scare from Hurricane Dean.He explained that the one-day meeting would facilitate one-on-one meetings with buyers and sellers from both sides of the global marketplace.
“The conference and trade expo is an attempt to showcase Jamaica as the place to do business at this time and also to present another dimension to the island. Hopefully, this will be the start of a major trade and investment initiative bringing together key business interests from both sides to learn and share ideas about business opportunities in Jamaica,” Dr. Mignott told JIS News.
Conference participants will be engaged in plenary sessions, workshops, information sessions, investor forums and an exposition designed to provide access and opportunities through one-on-one networks. The event is being presented in association with the Jamaica Diaspora Trade & Investment Council, Northeast Region (USA), a division of the Jamaica Diaspora Foundation, established in 2002 to facilitate and strengthen the links between Jamaicans residing abroad and those at home, thereby broadening the scope and impact of the contribution of the Diaspora to the development of Jamaica.
