Protocol

Chancery and Protocol Division

This Division is responsible for all State protocol.

Officers advise on matters of State protocol to the Governor-General, Prime Minister, Cabinet, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, other government agencies, and on request, the general public.

The Division advises on the application of conventions, formalities, courtesies and roles of official protocol and etiquette in respect of state, official and social occasions involving the Hon Prime Minister.

The Unit plans, arranges and executes programmes for visiting Heads of State, Heads of Government and other High Ranking Officials.

Professionals in protocol liaise with the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Sport and other agencies regarding all State and National events in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

Among the important ceremonies are the installation and inauguration ceremonies of State Officials that are planned in conjunction with King’s House. These Officials include the Governor-General, Prime Minister and Ministers of Government.

Along with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and all other relevant organisations, the Division is involved in the co-ordination and execution of State and Official funerals.

Visitors of the Prime Minister will be welcomed by protocol officers who will ensure that their stay is comfortable and that the correct etiquette and state procedures are observed.
