Parade of Floats Begins at 10:00 a.m. Aug. 6

The Parade of Floats for the Festival Float Parade and Grand Gala begins at 10:00 a.m. on Independence Day, Wednesday, August 6, while the Main Parade begins at 1:00 p.m.

The float promises to be an exciting affair, full of colour, pomp and splendor, with people dancing to music, just the way Jamaicans like it. Included in the morning float will be 30 sports cars, 20 classic cars, 10 floats and four music trucks with disco. The float departs the main gate of King's House at 10:00 a.m. and proceeds across to Lady Musgrave Road. The parade will then follow the route as outlined below.


  • Up Lady Musgrave Road, then left on to Old Hope Road

  • Down Old Hope Road to Tom Redcam Avenue

  • Left on Tom Redcam Avenue at Old Hope Road intersection

  • Right on Camp Road, around to Marescuax Road

  • Down Marescaux Road toward East Street

  • Left on North Street to South Camp Road

  • Right on South Camp Road at North Street intersection

  • Right on Victoria Avenue onwards to East Queen Street

  • Around Parade Square

  • Up Orange Street onwards to Torrington Bridge, and on to Slipe Road

  • On to Old Hope Road, onwards to Matilda's Corner

  • Left on Hope Road towards Ranny Williams Centre

The Parade will then line up in front of the assembly, starting at the most westerly gate of the Police Officers Club.

At 1:00 p.m. the parade of Floats will be joined by revellers and two live music trucks. At this time, the sports cars and classic cars will depart to go along the main parade route. The Main Parade will then follow the route as outlined below.


  • Down Hope Road to Half-Way Tree square

  • Left on Half -Way Tree Road to Oxford Road

  • Left on Oxford Road at Half-Way Tree intersection

  • Across to Tom Redcam Drive at Old Hope Road intersection

  • Right on Arthur Wint Drive to Roosevelt Avenue intersection.

The parade ends at the Arthur Wint/Roosevelt Avenue intersection. All revellers will then proceed to the National Arena to be refreshed. Those revellers taking part in the Grand Gala will be ushered to the East Field holding area. The floats and the two live music trucks will turn left on Roosevelt Avenue and return to base at West King's House lawns.

The four disco music trucks will be stationed at vantage points across from the Independence Park compound and will remain there playing music until midnight.
