The Full Story
It is with deep regret that I note the passing of Gleaner photographer, Winston Sill, one of the country’s finest in the field.
Winston Sill had a long and distinguished history in photo journalism, not only having worked at the Gleaner for the past 24 years but even before that, in the 1970s, at the now defunct Jamaica Daily News.
At the Jamaica Daily News, Winston made his mark as a sensitive and serious photographer, capturing many images of that interesting period of our history.
Winston Sill displayed a creativity and artistry that was arresting, and his passion for photography was evident. Highly respected by his peers, he was known for his doggedness and diligence.
A friendly and courteous professional, Winston will be deeply missed by colleagues and friends. He has made an important contribution to photojournalism in Jamaica and has set a sterling example for younger practitioners of the craft.
On behalf of the Government, I extend condolences to his family as well as to his colleagues at the Gleaner and to the wider journalistic community.
