September 24, 2004

The Full Story

The High Commission and Agencies of the Jamaican Government in London will collaborate to host a ‘Tea Party and Social Jamaican Style’ to raise funds for the Hurricane Ivan Relief Fund.
This event is set for Friday, October 8, at the Jamaican High Commission in London.
Co-ordinator, Angeline Fletcher told JIS News that the event came about last week following a meeting of the Mission’s staff to update them on the impact of Hurricane Ivan on Jamaica.
“During the meeting, one could sense that the staff members urgently wanted to do something substantial to assist in the reconstruction process. Suggestions were put forward and I was asked by the High Commissioner to co-ordinate an event, which turned out to be the Tea Party and Social Jamaican Style,” she said.
“As this is a collaborative effort, the team consists of representatives from the Jamaica Tourist Board, JAMPRO, the Maritime Authority of Jamaica, the Jamaica Defence Force, the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the Jamaica Information Service and the Mission. We are excited about this event and are very encouraged by the response so far. It will be a great event with a Dutch auction, raffle, good music, lots of fun.Jamaican style,” she added.
The High Commission launched the Fund last week. Monetary donations may be sent to the Jamaican High Commission by cheque or money order, made payable to Jamaica Hurricane Ivan Fund.
All donations will be sent to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) in Jamaica. Persons wishing more information on the Fund can contact:The Jamaican High Commission1-2 Prince Consort RoadLondon SW7 2BZTelephone: 0207-823-9911; 0207-808-8020; 0207-808-8017
