Heroic Bus Driver Departs for Disney Vacation

Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus operator, Annette Howard, who assisted over 100 passengers on an American Airline plane, which overran the runway at the Norman Manley International Airport in December, left the island today (May 20) for three-day dream vacation to Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
The trip to Disney World is in fulfilment of a wish she expressed to Prime Minister, Hon. Bruce Golding, during a courtesy call at Jamaica House on December 31. Miss Howard, her two sons, Nathan Morrison and Howard Wright, along with her mother, Mrs. Florence Lyn Gordon-Howard, will travel to Orlando via Miami.
Minister of Transport and Works, Hon. Michael Henry, in his remarks during a brief send off at the Ministry’s Maxfield Avenue offices today (May 20), expressed words of appreciation to the Prime Minister for helping the Ministry to recognise the heroic acts of Miss Howard. He also encouraged the JUTC bus operator and her family to enjoy their time in Orlando.

“You expressed your wish and you are leaving now to fulfil that wish. I want to wish you all the best and I hope you have a very pleasurable time. You showed responsibility and a respect for job and for the public, so we are asking you to continue as we need that kind person in the system,” Mr. Henry said.
In her remarks, Miss Howard stated that she was happy that her family has been given this opportunity to travel overseas. “I feel happy, overwhelmed, joyful, and there are no words that can explain this moment right now, but it feels good,” she said.
Managing Director of the JUTC, Paul Abrahams, stated that Jamaica was proud of Miss Howard. “I can only wish for her and her family a wonderful vacation and a safe travel,” Mr. Abrahams said.
The four, along with a relative in Florida, who will serve as chaperone, will be accommodated at Holiday Inn Orlando, located within the Walt Disney World Resort, from where they will have access to all the Walt Disney theme parks.
Miss Howard and her family are scheduled to return to Jamaica on Monday, May 24.
