Help for Hurricane Victims

September 24, 2004

The Full Story

A shipment of 50,000 pounds of emergency supplies totalling over $100,000 was yesterday (September 23) donated to hurricane victims in Jamaica by Diaego Corporation, the world’s leading spirits, beer and wine company.
The consignment will be delivered to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), which will administer and distribute the supplies throughout the island.
The shipment consists of needed items, including dome tents, tarpaulins, a variety of water cans, mosquito control materials, rice, beans, cooking oil, powdered milk, infant formula and baby diapers.
This is the sixth humanitarian mission of the company since June, assisting victims affected by recent hurricanes. Other donations have been airlifted to hurricane victims in Grenada, Haiti, Dominican Republic, and areas in the Southwest United States of America (USA).
The assistance is part of the ongoing effort, ‘Spirit of the Americas’, which began after the terrorist attack on the USA in 2001. Through this project, critical aid is delivered to communities where the company employees work and live. Diaego employs nearly 30,000 persons worldwide, and shares a relationship with Jamaica as purveyor of the Red Stripe Beer brand.
Corporate Relations Director for Communications in Latin America and the Caribbean, William Bullard told JIS News that his organization was “committed to bringing aid to needed victims and working together in rebuilding communities and lives”.
Jamaica’s Consul General to Miami, Ricardo Allicock expressed appreciation to Diaego’s corporate leaders and employees for their humanitarian efforts. This, he said, demonstrated a level of corporate responsibility and service to those in need.
