The Full Story

A trailer-load of food, clothing and medical supplies will be shipped to Jamaica to be distributed among Haitian refugees currently on the island. This effort is being spearheaded by the United Caribbean American Network of New Jersey (UCAN-NJ).President of the UCAN-NJ, Jamaican-born Councilwoman Elsie Foster-Dublin, gave details of the donation to JIS News, recently.
“I reached out to members of the New Jersey community in an effort to assist the Haitian refugees in Jamaica and we received overwhelming support from individuals as well as from various organizations such as the United Methodist Church, the Reformed Church of Highland Park, First Presbyterian Church of Orange, Haitian Pastors Association, Eglise Du Nazareen and the Edison/Metuchen chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP),” she noted.
The Councilwoman said she was particularly proud of the young people’s group from the Jewish Highland Park Conservative Temple, who adopted this effort as their project for Passover.
Mrs. Foster-Dublin said this positive response to assist the people of Haiti proved that there were those who “are always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need and who are committed to making a positive difference in the world”.
The donation is expected to be shipped to Jamaica next week with the assistance of New York based Transcontinental Shipping, which is headed by Jamaican national, Robert DeSouza.
