Health Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, views as deeply troubling a video and images circulating on Facebook of construction work being done at the Savanna-La-Mar Hospital’s paediatric ward while being occupied by children.

Dr. Tufton noted that under no circumstance should the children in the hospital’s care should have been subjected to such conditions.

Following a directive from the Health Minister on Saturday, the Regional Director of the Western Regional Health Authority (WRHA), Dr. Ken-Garfield Douglas, suspended the work at once and the area was cleaned. The matter is being investigated and Dr. Tufton is awaiting a report.

“What has occurred on the ward is very unfortunate and in my mind shows poor judgement,” the Minister said.

Dr. Tufton expressed regret that the children and parents/guardians have had to endure this indiscretion.
