The Full Story

Minster of Education, Youth and Information, Senator the Hon. Ruel Reid, says the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) will go ahead as planned on March 22 and 23.

Speaking with JIS News on Tuesday (March 13), Senator Reid encouraged parents to do revision with their children at home to support the work being done by teachers in preparation for the exams.

“We will also move to have special workshops ahead of the exams next week, to recondition our students to have them properly sensitised and ready for those exams,” he said.

“So, at this stage, I do not anticipate that there will be any further industrial action next week that will disrupt the exams. We will… put even more contingency in place to ensure that in the event that there is an industrial action, we would be able to conduct those exams using alternative resources,” he added.

GSAT is Jamaica’s national high school entrance examination. It is usually taken in March, with the results released in June. GSAT replaced the Common Entrance Examination in 1999.
