The Full Story

The Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Olivia Grange, MP has congratulated Jamaica's Veronica Campbell-Brown on winning the women's 200 metres at the IAAF World Championships in South Korea.

Minister Grange said:

“Veronica Campbell-Brown has been one of the best sprinters the world has seen and she demonstrated just how good she is tonight.  She fought for this victory, she was so determined, and she delivered with the grace that we have come to expect of her while running her season’s best time.  Veronica is a class act and thoroughly deserving of this victory.  She has once again made all Jamaicans very proud."

Veronica Campbell-Brown's time was 22.22 seconds. It was the first time that she was winning the 200 metres final at the World Championships.

Jamaica’s Kerron Stewart (22.70) finished fifth while Sherone Simpson (23.17) finished eighth. Minister Grange offered them encouragement.

Minister Grange also congratulated Jamaica's 4×400 metres team (3:00.10) that took the bronze medal in the men’s final.

“The boys did well.  They led for a good portion of the race, but finished third; and that’s the way it goes sometimes. I’m very proud that they won a medal."
