Grange Congratulates Bolt and Blake on IAAF Awards

The Minister of Youth Sports and Culture, the Hon. Olivia Grange, MP has congratulated Jamaica's Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake on winning IAAF awards for their performances during the year.

Bolt has been named the 2011 Male World Athlete of the Year.  It’s the third consecutive year that he was winning the award.

Minister Grange said "Bolt deserved to win after a challenging but successful year in which he defended his title in the 200 metres at the World Championships before anchoring the Jamaican team to victory in the 4×100 metres in world record time."

Blake won the award for Performance of the Year for clocking 19.26 in the 200 metres – the second fastest time ever over the distance.

Minister Grange said she was "very proud of the young Jamaicans” adding that their successes “underscored the importance of following one's passions, hard work and believing in one’s abilities."

Minister Grange wished them continued success.
