Govt to Consult Social Partnership Group on IMF Engagement

June 24, 2009

The Full Story

Prime Minister Bruce Golding will consult the Social Partnership Group on Thursday, June 25, on the terms under which Jamaica should enter into a funding arrangement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
This follows a Cabinet directive that Jamaica should explore the IMF Standby Facility in order to keep the goals for the Medium Term Economic Programme (MTEP) on track.
The Cabinet directive arose from a technical report that was submitted on Tuesday, June 23, by the Minister of Finance on the possible need for additional financing through the IMF.
The Social Partnership Group includes representatives from the Private Sector, Trade Unions and the Opposition.
