The Full Story

Minister of Labour and Social Security, Hon. Shahine Robinson, says the Government is committed to a long-term action plan aimed at supporting the development of persons with disabilities.

“The groundwork has been laid with the passage of the National Disability Act. Inclusive social services, disability rights and targeted service provisions are all part of this legislation,” she pointed out.

Mrs. Robinson was speaking at a fun day for children under the Ministry’s Early Stimulation Programme (ESP) held on Tuesday (December 13) at the Dolphin Cove attraction in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.

She thanked Dophin Cove and other private-sector companies that continue to assist the efforts of the Government in providing a supportive framework for persons with disabilities.

She urged more companies to give to vulnerable persons in the society.

“Persons with disabilities, senior citizens and the homeless are among the vulnerable Jamaicans to whom we can pay special attention this Christmas,” she noted.

Minister Robinson hailed the administration of the ESP, led by Director, Antonica Gunter-Gayle, for the work it has been doing in taking care of the 125 children involved in the programme.

“I want to thank the ESP team… for their dedication in caring for these children on a daily basis and I also thank their parents, who continue to work with and support the teachers,” he said.

The children were fêted, took pictures with Santa and were presented with toys, while gifts were sent for those who were unable to attend. The children were also treated to a dolphin show.
