The Full Story

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, says the Government has every intention of fulfilling its commitments to the Jamaican people.

Mr. Holness gave the assurance, during his address at a Ministry of National Security-sponsored town hall meeting in Montego Bay, St. James on April 12.

“We know the expectations and we have no intention to disappoint. I have never been one to just set my hat where it cannot reach,” he said.

The Prime Minister noted that right across the length and breadth of Jamaica, the Government’s message of prosperity has started to resonate with the people, adding that he is sensing a renewal of hope and optimism.

“The people already get the sense that this will no longer be business as usual and that we are committed to getting it right. There is too much at stake and our people deserve to live a quality life…a life where they can take care of their families and meet their responsibilities,” he stated.

The Prime Minister said he is under no illusion about the challenges that are ahead and expressed confidence that his administration is ready and able to take on the task.

“The ethos of this Government is that we are going to take on the difficult challenges. We are going to give it our best shot so as to change Jamaica for the better. At the end of the day, we are supposed to say that not only did we take on the difficult things but that we thrived, we prospered, we indeed made a difference in the lives of our people,” he pointed out.

The Prime Minister commended National Security Minister, Hon. Robert Montague for the series of town hall meetings being held across the island, noting that staying in touch with the people is one of the most effective methods of crime fighting.

“These fora are important in keeping the Government close to the people…and accountable to the people. I endorse and encourage more of them,” he noted.
