Goshen All-Age Wins Regional Safety Competition

Goshen All-age School in St. Elizabeth emerged Regional Champion in the 18th annual Alumina Partners of Jamaica (ALPART) Home, Street, Schools Safety competition yesterday (June 14).
In his address at the event, held at ALPART sports club at Nain, General Manager Designate of the company, Alberto Fabrini, noted that one of the reasons for the company’s success during its long tenure in Essex Valley has been its strong commitment to safety and education. “Safety, health and the environment must be a concern to every human being, whether at work, at school, at play or in the home. It is therefore important that our employees, teachers and children continue to work together to prevent accidents, to live a healthy lifestyle and to protect the environment,” he said. Mr. Fabrini commended the schools for the very “excellent mounted displays” that he had seen, all of which reflected the theme for 2007, ‘Healthy lifestyle – A journey to a longer life’. “Alpart has made education the centrepiece of our community relations programme and it is important to take note of the benefits that have accrued to the schools from this programme, such as the essay writing, quiz and talent competition, debating skills, leadership training and character development,” he said. He pointed out that the ALPART academic awards for outstanding students from the primary and all-age schools and the bursaries granted for further training of teachers, had also come out of the programme.
“We remain resolute in our commitment to safety and protecting the environment and I am proud that we have shared our experience with the learning institutions and the many thousands of students over the past 18 years,” he said.
The ALPART/Home, Street, Schools Safety programme is conducted in the mining and plant areas among all-age and primary schools and involves 15,000 students each year.
