Traffic Ticket Amnesty 2017

August 11, 2017

The Full Story

The Government has implemented a Traffic Ticket Amnesty to allow motorists with unpaid traffic ticket fines to make payments without incurring a penalty or interest.  The Amnesty will run from August 2 to October 31, 2017. The amnesty will affect tickets issued between September 1, 2010 and July 31, 2017.

The three-month amnesty is being facilitated under the Road Traffic (Temporary Ticket Amnesty) Act, which was passed in the House of Representatives on July 11, 2017.
Points to note:

  • Tickets may be paid online at jamaicatax.gov.jm or at any Tax Administration of Jamaica (TAJ) office islandwide.
  • For tickets that were issued with a warrant, once the tickets are paid, arrangements will be made for the warrant to be vacated (disposed of) at court. If the matter is currently ongoing, motorists should attend court to have the matter disposed of by taking their receipts to prove payment.
  • During the amnesty, tickets paid will have no demerit points assigned.
  • Tickets paid in full will be removed from the record of the ticket holder.
  • Customers do not have to pay all tickets at once but may make several payments during the amnesty.
  • Motorists may call the TAJ call centre at (876) 948-0411 to get information on their records.
