The Full Story

Effective tomorrow, Saturday, February 12, 2016, the Forum Bridge in Portmore, St. Catherine will be reopened. The bridge which was closed in November 2015 in order to facilitate structural repairs is being re-opened a week ahead of schedule.

The Forum Bridge is located along Port Henderson Road, which is also referred to as “Back Road”. The road has been opened to only small vehicles since November, when the National Works Agency (NWA) closed the bridge to facilitate repairs, valued at 28 million dollars.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that both vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be allowed to use the refurbished bridge, starting at 2:00 p.m tomorrow.

He says that the detour route that was opened with the use of a Bailey Bridge will be closed. The bridge and the traffic signals that were placed at the location will also be removed.

Mr. Shaw says that heavy vehicles can once again use Port Henderson Road, as the refurbished structure can accommodate them.

The NWA spokesman says that minor work will continue on the bridge, as steel members beneath the road are being painted and sand blasting done on other areas of the structure.
