Fire Brigade In St. Ann Inspects New Fire Hydrants

February 5, 2004

The Full Story

The St. Ann Division of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, will be carrying out an inspection of some new fire hydrants in the parish.
At the monthly meeting of the St. Ann Parish Development Committee (PDC), held at the St. Ann Parish Council Chamber on Wednesday (Feb. 4), Senior Superintendent of the Division, Denzil Kerr, said the inspection would be done on hose fire hydrants that had been provided by the contractor for the North Coast Highway, “to find out if they are compatible with those already in the system”.
Presently, the new hydrants are at the regional office of the National Water Commission (NWC), in Discovery Bay, in the parish.
Noting that several of the older fire hydrants in the parish, were in need of repairs, Mr. Kerr said while those in the resort town of Ocho Rios were in good condition, the hydrants in Runaway Bay, Discovery Bay, St. Ann’s Bay, Brown’s Town and other developed communities in the parish, needed attention.
The Fire Brigade superintendent told JIS News that those hydrants in the towns situated near the North Coast Highway project, were to be upgraded as soon as the road reached that phase of development.
