FCJ Announces New Managing Director

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Factories Corporation of Jamaica (FCJ), Mr. Lyttleton ‘Tanny’ Shirley, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Donald Farquharson as the new Managing Director of the organization as of December 1, 2016.

Dr. Farquharson has served in positions at the highest level of the public and private sectors for over twenty five (25) years. Over this period, he has held both management and technical positions. These positions include Chief Information Officer for Jamaica Public Service, Chief Executive Officer of Kingston Public and Jubilee Hospitals, Regional Director of South East Regional Health Authority and Senior Director Special Services of the Ministry of Health.  Dr. Farquharson has also served in engineering positions such as Operations Manager, Project Manager and Maintenance Engineer.

Dr. Farquharson’s extensive work experiences are further complemented by his diverse academic training in management, information systems and engineering.

He was the first candidate to successfully complete the Doctorate in Business Administration at the Mona School of Business and Management. He also is accredited with a Master’s of Science in Management Information System and Master in Business Administration. He is a Professional Engineer, who is accredited with a Bachelors of Science in Computer and Electrical Engineering and a Diploma in Electrical Engineering.

Mr. Shirley has indicated that “Dr. Farquharson is charged with the responsibility of leading the transformation of the FCJ”. He is confident, that the new Managing Director has the requisite expertise and management capabilities to resolve the matters of concerns that have been raised recently in the public domain.

Mr. Shirley says the Board of Directors is committed to fulfilling the mandate, issued by the Most Honourable Prime Minister Andrew Holness, to realign the functions of the Factories Corporation of Jamaica (FCJ) to efficiently deliver on its mandate. To accomplish the mandate of the FCJ, the Board of Directors will be focused on the following:

• Alignment of FCJ’s strategic objectives to the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation’s mandates
• Improving Governance and Management Control
• Strengthening of the Organization’s Structure
• Expansion of Commercial and Industrial Space, especially for the BPO Industry
• Increase the Return on Asset and Profitability of the FCJ
